How sweet it is to love men when your investment is limited! Gretchen Phillips is a lesbian who has always loved men – as friends, as musical partners, as kinfolk, as idealized Christ figures, as brothers.  In spite of stubble and sexism, Gretchen definitely needs her Vitamin M.  So much that she has created a spoken and sung memoir chronicling her struggles and successes with Manlove.

Manlove brings Gretchen's warm and unabashed humanism to bear on politics, both sexual and national, religion, love of all kinds, and, of course, men. Personal, hilarious, mournful and, ultimately, bursting with joy, Manlove is a stripped down show of stories and songs from a most original thinker and writer.

While continuing to perform with her full band, Gretchen began branching out into musical memoir in 2007 with Don't Stop Believing, a piece about growing up in a conservative Christian household outside Houston, presented as part of
Rude Mechanicals’ Throws Like a Girl Series. Her latest, Manlove, premiered at The VORTEX in 2008.

"The most hilarious and engaging thing to come down the pike in a long, long time.  Whether you're a die hard music fan and know about Gretchen's iconic status in both the indie- and womyn's music scenes or just happened in off the street, this show will make you feel good about being alive." - Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre)
